Yume Koujou: Doki-doki Panic

Yume Koujou: Doki-doki Panic

While two children, Poke and Piki, are reading a story, a monstrous hand suddenly emerges from within the pages and abducts them. When the rest of the Dream Factory family hears their cries for help, they jump into the story and help save them from the evil Wart. The game was released as part of the Yume Koujou '87 event (sometimes called Dream Machine in English), which was sponsored by Fuji TV and starred their mascots. The game was adapted and released as Super Mario Bros. 2. This was because Nintendo of Japan felt that their version of Super Mario Bros 2 would be too difficult and outdated when it came to the US.

Story

The game takes place in a storybook. The story of the book tells of the dream world Muu, in which the quality of dreams determines the quality of the weather the next day. For this reason, the Muu citizens have invented a dream machine so that they can always have good dreams. One day, a malevolent being called Mamu invaded the land and used the dream machine to create nightmarish monsters. But the Muu learned of his weakness for vegetables and used it to defeat him. The old storybook fell into the hands of the monkey Rūsa, who gave it to the young twins Poki and Piki. But the twins quarrel and end up tearing out the last page of the book, erasing the end of the book. The freed Mamu reaches through the pages, grabs the twins and pulls them into the book. Rūsa fetches the twins' parents, mom and dad, their brother Imajin and Imajin's friend Lina, and they enter the book to rescue them.
