Vigilante 8

Vigilante 8

Vigilante 8 is a vehicle combat game set in an alternative year 1975. Australian terrorist Sid Burn is hired by OMAR to take out all the competing oil companies in the United States so that OMAR can establish an oil monopoly in the country. After hearing reports of destruction by Sid Burn's gang, the Coyotes, a man named Convoy, a kind-hearted trucker, forms his own group, the Vigilantes, to fight the Coyotes and stop OMAR's tyranny.

Story

The plot of the game is set in an alternate history, in which there was a global oil crisis in the 1970s and the USA was on the verge of economic collapse. Strikes, riots and crime were rampant, and all available law enforcement was brought into the cities, while the outskirts were defenseless. A foreign multinational oil consortium, the Oil Monopoly Alliance Regime (OMAR), was determined to monopolize the global oil trade. The U.S. was the last country to stand in their way, and they were willing to do anything to bring the U.S. to its knees. OMAR hired Sid Burn, a professional terrorist, to bring the US economy to its knees. Sid began organizing his troops in the remote areas of the Southwest. Calling themselves "Coyotes," they began targeting oil refineries, commercial facilities, and other vital industries throughout the region. With law enforcement in the cities, some desperate civilians began to take the law into their own hands. Led by a trucker named Convoy and simply called the "Vigilantes," this strange group soon became a major obstacle for Sid. Meanwhile, the U.S. government, feeling more vulnerable than ever, intensified its research and development of a new military arsenal. The most advanced weapons, rumored to be based on UFO technology, were located at Site-4, a secret facility at Papoose Lake. This information did not escape Sid, and the Coyotes ambushed the facility. Unexpectedly, however, the Vigilantes showed up to stop them, and so both parties found themselves in possession of the most advanced weapons in the world. What followed were no ordinary skirmishes. Across the country, from the Rocky Mountains of Colorado to the farms of California, clashes occurred that culminated in a battle unlike any other. To this day, the events are only speculation.
