Vandal Hearts

You'll take on the role of Ash Lambert, a hero torn between saving his country and restoring honor to the disgraced Lambert dynasty. As he struggles with his inner demons and personal problems, he meets various companions on his journey. They will help your character overthrow the oppressive regime and fight off an ancient being that threatens the world. Vandal-Hearts is a turn-based 3D strategy game. Unlike many other games of the genre, the different battlefields have sloping surfaces that are either to your advantage or disadvantage. It's up to you to adapt your strategy and carry out an adequate offensive attack against your enemies, as well as take defensive measures.

Story

Thousands of years ago, the holy man known in history as Toroah the Messiah traveled widely across the continent of Sostegaria, spreading his teachings throughout the land. After his death, his descendants and heirs assumed absolute political power over the region. They formed the basis of the sacred Ashah dynasty and ruled for millennia through a combination of religious teachings and military might. However, the kings and queens of the Holy Ashah Dynasty did not always rule wisely or justly, and over time, citizens began to resent the power of their leaders. Fifteen years ago, this growing discontent found its ultimate expression in the person of Arris the Wise, who united the disparate anti-royal factions throughout Sostegaria and formed them into a powerful guerrilla army. Under the cunning leadership of Arris, this liberation army managed to outwit and outmaneuver the royal army, eventually advancing to the palace of the Ashah dynasty itself and burning it to the ground. After the monarchy was dissolved, the rebels established a governing council based on the principles of democracy and popular sovereignty. From the ashes of the Holy Ashah Empire emerged the Republic of Ishtaria. The leaders of the revolution naturally assumed leadership positions in the new republic: all except Arris himself, who suddenly disappeared and has not been seen or heard from since. Today, the fledgling Republic finds itself in an increasingly difficult position: autocratic defense minister Hel Spites and his elite anti-terrorist force, the Crimson Guard, are using more and more violence to wipe out the last remnants of resistance to Ishtaran rule, while allowing outlaws to roam the lands and pirates to sail the seas. Meanwhile, Ash Lambert and his colleagues in the Third Battalion of the Ishtar Security Forces begin to suspect a conspiracy at the highest levels of government. However, Ash's attempts to draw attention to the situation only draw the ire of the conspirators themselves, leaving only Ash and his allies to thwart their plans and restore order to the nation. After the credits, there is an additional cutscene in which Eleni hears Ash's ocarina theme and claims that "he" has returned.
