Valkyria Chronicles
Valkyria Chronicles is set on a fictional continent reminiscent of the 1930s, and shows a Europe divided in two, ruled by two superpowers: the Empire and the Federation. The Empire's goal is to invade a small neutral country called Gallia, located in the middle between the territories of the two superpowers, in order to secure invaluable natural resources. In this battle, a hero named Welkin and his comrades from the Federation's 7th Platoon fight against the invasion and the Empire's attempts to unite the continent under its power. During the ensuing war, the Federation discovers that the Empire possesses a secret weapon known as "Valkyria" - an ancient race with special powers that exist only in legend. With this new discovery, the fate of the Federation and the hope for a better future depends on whether they can turn the tide. "CANVAS" graphics engine: A unique engine that creates stunning images that look like moving watercolors. "BLiTZ" tactical combat system: Experience strategic maneuvering of units combined with conventional RPG gameplay, all overlaid with real-time controls that allow players to command individual squad members and tanks in battle. Epic Storyline: Players are immersed in the epic struggle for freedom as the fate of the world lies in the hands of Welkin and the members of the 7th Platoon. Customization: Over 100 customizable characters allow players to create a variety of platoons to suit the needs of each battle. Beautifully rendered battlefields: Players explore 30 different environments and use unique terrain features to gain advantages in battle.
Story
In 1935 E.C., the continent of Europe is dominated by two superpowers: the autocratic Eastern European Imperial Alliance in the east and the Atlantic Federation, a union of loosely allied democracies, in the west. The economies of both powers depend on a valuable multipurpose mineral called Ragnite. Its increasing scarcity leads the Empire to declare war on the Federation, triggering the Second European War. The Empire uses its military superiority to quickly put the Federation on the defensive. Emboldened by its advances and momentum, the Empire decides to invade the neutral principality of Gallia to capture its rich Ragnite deposits. When Imperial forces attack the Gallic border town of Bruhl, Welkin Gunther, son of the late Gallic national hero General Belgen Gunther, must fight for his life alongside the town guard, Alicia Melchiott. Together with Welkin's adopted sister Isara and Belgen's prototype tank from the first war, the Edelweiss, they flee to the capital of Gaul, Randgriz, and join the militia forces of the country. Welkin is promoted to lieutenant and takes command of the newly formed Troop 7, with Alicia serving as his sergeant. Initially, the squad members doubt Welkin's qualifications because he lacks combat experience, but he quickly wins their trust and loyalty with his tactical genius. Welkin and Alicia soon fall in love.
