Trials of Mana
Trials of Mana is the third installment in the Mana series, developed by Square under the direction of series creator Koichi Ishii. The game is set in a new world where the Mana Tree is once again threatened by an ancient evil that should have been locked away. Players choose three of six heroes as the chosen bearers of the Mana Sword and their two companions for the journey to retrieve the sacred sword and save what remains of the Mana power.
Story
The story takes place in a fictional world where Mana is an ethereal but finite source of energy. At some point in the past, the Mana Goddess created the world of the game by forging the powerful Sword of Mana and using it to defeat eight monsters of destruction, the Benevodons - "God Beasts" in earlier translations - sealing them in eight Mana Stones before transforming into the Mana Tree and falling asleep. The game is set at a time when mana is beginning to dwindle and peace is coming to an end, as several people plot to free the Benevodons from the stones to gain ultimate power.
