Touhou Eiyashou: Imperishable Night
The game features eight playable characters, with four preset teams of two and unlockable individual character modes. When you play with the character pairs, one character fires when not in focus, while the other turns on and fires when in focus, reducing movement speed. The two firing modes can differ drastically. Individual characters, with the exception of Remilia and Youmu, do not change firing modes when focused/unfocused. In Undying Night, there are Last Spells. For the enemy, a Last Spell is a bonus spell card that the player can challenge without the ability to use bombs and without the risk of losing life. On the player side, Last Spells are secondary "bomb" spell cards that last longer and do much more damage than regular bombs, but cost two bomb supplies. Player Last Spells can only be used immediately after a hit, with a grace period of less than 1 second. There is also a "time orb" system that affects the story and score, as well as a meter that shows how human/youkai (normal/concentrated) you are and how to collect more time orbs.
Story
A human and a youkai team set out to explore a forest path. Along the way, they encounter a firefly (Wriggle Nightbug) and a night sparrow (Mystia Lorelei), which are quickly defeated. Next, they encounter a half-beast (None) who is protecting a human village from Youkai. She mistakes the team for her enemies and attacks them. After the team defeats her, Keine points out that the person who switched the moons is in the Bamboo Forest. In the bamboo forest, they meet a person (either Reimu or Marisa) who wants to know why the team froze time and caused an indelible night. Eventually, the team reaches the culprit's mansion. However, there they discover that the house is guarded by two rabbits (Tewi and Reisen). The rabbits are defeated, but not before they confuse the team. Confused, the team must decide which path to take (one leads to the real moon, the other to the fake moon). After deciding on the right path, they meet the originator of this evil plan, Kaguya. Kaguya is a lunar princess who is in hiding and has kidnapped the real moon to sever the connection between Earth and the moon. The team restores the real moon and Kaguya asks them to face the "5 impossible requirements".
