The Last Spell

Story

It happened. The magic schools of the known world - driven by a mad competition for power - finally pressed the big red button. We no longer know exactly who did what, but the effects were felt everywhere and immediately. A simple and final obliteration of 95% of all living things in a joyous purple explosion of pure magic. Cities collapsed and were littered with dripping corpses. The air changed too. It became saturated with a more or less dense fog, which was all that remained of the series of explosions caused by the mages' madness. Of course, this fog, even if it had beautiful and vivid colors, caused death. And sometimes worse. It is said that both the curious and the fools who lived in mist-infested areas turned into bloodthirsty monstrosities. After the confusion came the time for action. Most of the surviving creatures fell into a cozy madness, blaming and killing each other. Others decided to fight to the end. They naturally gathered where the fog was less dense and tried to keep some cities afloat. The survivors quickly understood the hellish cycle that was now part of their daily lives. The days were quiet and peaceful. They could take time to organize themselves, heal their wounds and scour the surrounding area for anything useful. But the nights... The fog thickened and hordes of mutated monsters rose from its bowels, hungry for blood and magic. Now they must fight them off until dawn. Stay strong, whatever the cost. And above all, you must stop them from destroying our walls, the last remnants of their glorious past. And protect those damned mages. They say they have a plan.
