As a theater commander, you'll experience a gripping turn-based grand strategy in which you direct the deployment of troops, conduct research and carefully consider how to allocate your resources on the Western Front in a war that will be won by inches. You'll also take on the role of field commander in dynamic real-time battles where you lead units to defeat your opponent, build trenches and launch direct attacks by sending your infantry over the top. Choose your battles and fight them your way to influence the course of history. The battlefields are constant and as you continue your advance across the Western Front, you will revisit previous battlefields that still bear the scars and destruction of previous battles. Artillery fire leaves craters, tanks, gunfire and trenches ravage the once lush French countryside, and any trenches (or fortifications) you've built will remain in play when you return. Weather also plays a role: the longer the conflict lasts, the more the weather will change, e.g. with snow and rain, affecting the performance of artillery and the movement of units. To achieve victory, you must carefully adapt your strategy to the prevailing conditions.
