The Age of Decadence

The Age of Decadence

The Age of Decadence is a pseudo-isometric, turn-based 3D role-playing game for Windows, Mac OS X and Linux by Iron Tower Studio, directed by the pseudonymous "Vince D. Weller". The Age of Decadence is set in a post-apocalyptic, low-magic world inspired by the fall of the Roman Empire. The game aims to revive the "golden era" of role-playing games by focusing on choices and consequences and offering a comprehensive skill set, multiple solutions to quests and extensive dialogue trees.

Story

The story in The Age of Decadence explores several themes: the dangers of a post-apocalyptic world, the fine line between historical fact and fiction, and the competition between political factions. According to the Imperial Scrolls, the evil kingdom of Q'antaar and the Empire were engaged in a bloody magical war that devastated much of the known world. Both sides invoked arcane and divine powers, summoning gods and other beings of immense power, whose struggle eventually destroyed both sides. The cities of the once glorious empire lay in ruins and the corpses of the dead were scattered across the land. Centuries later, the world still suffers under the shadow of the collapse of civilization. Where there was once unity, factions now fight for supremacy in the ruined world. Where there was once knowledge, there is now ignorance of science and magic. Where once there was chivalry and honor, there is now only pettiness and treachery. And in this troubled, divided land of myths and fables, the player discovers an ancient map that provides a clue to the realm's true past. The player's character plays an active role in shaping the plot of AoD, which is not linear. The world reacts dynamically to the player's actions. Players can choose between 7 factions, pit them against each other, or even reject them all. The game is supposed to have seven endings, only two of which involve deadly combat.
