SSX is the first game in a series of snowboarding video games that specialize in extreme sports with an unrealistic or arcade-like feel, featuring exaggerated jumps, super-decorated downhill runs, and improbable tricks. As you win medals in various events, you unlock new tracks, characters, and boards and improve your boarder's skills. You can earn new outfits by completing a character's trick book by performing a series of specific tricks during the game. Players have three types of boards at their disposal: trick-oriented freestyle boards, versatile BX boards, and race-oriented alpine boards that are not designed for backward riding. The tracks are located all over the world. The snowboarders also come from all over the world and speak their native languages.
