Spec Ops: The Line

Spec Ops: The Line

A third-person shooter in which three American soldiers, led by Capt. Walker, are sent to Dubai to recover the remains of an infantry unit, the 33rd Battalion, until they decide to take action against the militants in the city. However, as they progress, the logistical and ethical complexities of their objective become more and more complex, and their self-image and enemy image are called into question.

Story

The game follows the story of the character Captain Martin Walker (voiced by Nolan North), who is sent to a post-apocalyptic Dubai with an elite team of Delta Force Bravo. Dubai used to be a prosperous area with many high-profile citizens until catastrophic sandstorms buried much of the city. As a result, many were evacuated and only a few remained behind. One of those left behind was U.S. Army Colonel John Konrad (a reference to Heart of Darkness author Joseph Conrad), a founding member of Delta Force who refused to evacuate a training facility in the city and instead stayed behind with the men under his command to protect the citizens who could not be evacuated. After several weeks of no contact, the Army fears that Colonel Konrad and his men are lost in the destroyed city until a weak distress signal is picked up. This is the reason for the army to deploy the player and his squad. They must infiltrate the city, neutralize outlaws and survive sandstorms while trying to find out what happened to Konrad and his men. The narration in the trailer and the sound clips on the game's website suggest that Konrad's motivations for staying in Dubai against orders may not be entirely genuine.
