Spacebase Startopia
Spacebase Startopia impresses with its original mix of economic simulation and empire-building strategy paired with classic RTS battles and a good dose of humor. Besides the challenging single-player campaign and the versatile battle mode, there are also competitive and cooperative multiplayer modes for up to four players. And as if maintaining the three space station decks, entertaining the eight alien races and defending against enemy invaders weren't challenging enough, the dynamic narrator AI doesn't mince words, commenting on events in an endearing but sharp-tongued manner.
Story
"Help, we are all being d... What... Oh, sorry, it seems my system is no longer up to date - [old save deleted] - so, much better... WELCOME to the spacebase Startopia! I am VAL, your helpful and efficient space station AI! According to my records, this station hasn't been used at all in the last 17 years! How odd. Also, you seem to be the only sane life form in this sector. Well, congratulations! I hereby officially declare you the commander of this space station! Hopefully you'll have more success than your predecessor, who, according to the log, encountered some worm-like aliens... Oh, no need to worry! To prevent the same thing from happening to you, you'll have to do a lot of things. These include expanding more sectors, maintaining the three vital main decks, and acquiring customers and entertaining our alien visitors, who provide us with enough energy for our global improvement plans. Oh, and before I forget - it's probably just a bug in my security logs anyway - but my sensors are showing plenty of hostile creatures in all the other sectors.... So, what are we waiting for? Let's get to work! Let's join forces and conquer space!"
