Soul Edge

Soul Edge

Soul Edge is an arcade fighting game developed by Team Project Soul and published by Namco. It is the first part of the Soul series of weapon-based fighting games. An updated and expanded version of the game was ported to the PlayStation later that year. Namco decided to use the title Soul Blade in Europe, North America and Australia. The game was a commercial and critical success and was followed by several sequels, starting with Soulcalibur in 1998.

Story

The events of Soul Edge take place in the year 1583. The game tells the story of warriors in search of the ultimate sword, "Soul Edge". It has received many names throughout history, such as "The Sword of Redemption", "The Sword of Heroes" and "The Ultimate Sword". Many strong warriors have searched for it for years, but only a few have actually found it. The sword, which today has the shape of a twin longsword, mysteriously appeared at an auction. It was captured by the feared pirate Cervantes de Leon and nothing is known about its further fate. Currently, nine warriors from all over the world (Hwang, Li Long, Mitsurugi, Rock, Seong Mi-na, Siegfried, Sophitia, Taki and Voldo) are searching for the sword for different reasons. Some want its power, others want revenge. Some, believing it to be a benevolent sword, crave its support. Others, knowing of its evil nature, want to destroy it. Nothing is known for certain about the sword except one thing: it brings misfortune to those who seek it.
