Siren

Siren

The story revolves around a group of characters who are connected to each other and have a power that allows them to see and hear what a nearby character sees. The game was followed by a PlayStation 2 sequel, a PlayStation 3 remake, and a film adaptation. Siren is divided into stages, each of which takes place in one of ten areas in the village of Hanuda and is arranged chronologically in a table called "Link Navigator". To complete a stage, the player must achieve a main objective, which is usually to reach an exit, defeat undead enemies called "Shibito" or find an item. The objectives in the different stages are connected by a butterfly effect, and the actions of a character in one stage can trigger a secondary objective in another stage. Scattered throughout each stage are various items that give the player further insight into the background of the plot. Once obtained, these items are archived in a catalog and can be accessed at any time during the game. The player characters have a psychic power called "Sightjack" that allows them to see and hear what a Shibito or a nearby human sees and hears, thus determining its position, as well as gaining knowledge about its activities and the location of acquirable items. The clarity of each target depends on its distance from the player character. Once a viewpoint is found, it can be assigned to a specific button on the controller to easily switch between multiple viewpoints. However, the player character cannot move while using the ability and is thus vulnerable to attack. The game encourages the player to dodge Shibito instead of fighting them. The character can move silently, avoid using a flashlight, and hide behind objects to avoid detection. Certain mission objectives require the character to use objects and/or the environment to distract Shibito from her activity so that she can accomplish a goal. Others require the player to escort a non-player character. Player characters can also shout at any time to get the attention of Shibito nearby. In most stages, the player character can hide in certain places like closets and lock doors to prevent Shibito from entering. When a Shibito hears a sound from the player character, it searches in the direction from which it heard the sound. If a player character is seen by a Shibito, it will pursue it and kill it either with a melee or ranged weapon or by strangulation. The Shibito will also scream to warn other Shibito nearby. When the player character is out of sight of the Shibito for a period of time, the Shibito will give up and resume its usual habits. During the game, the player has a variety of weapons at his disposal, from melee weapons to firearms. Shibito can be taken out in combat, but they can't be killed and will revive after a short time. If a character is injured, they can recover after some time. Characters lose stamina in combat and while running.
