Shining Force III: 3rd Scenario
Scenario 3, “Bulzome Rising,” centers on Julian, a mercenary who appears as a supporting character in both Scenario 1 and Scenario 2. He is, in essence, the true protagonist of Shining Force III. At the beginning of the story, his driving force is to track down and kill Galm—one of the most powerful, if not the most powerful, member of the Vandals, a mighty race of beings that existed over 1,000 years ago. Julian believes that Galm killed his father and seeks revenge. This storyline was first introduced in an earlier Shining game, Shining the Holy Ark, in which Julian appears as a young boy who asks the group to search for his missing father. Julian joins Synbios in the middle of his quest in Scenario 1, but after an encounter with Galm, he is pushed off a suspension bridge over a waterfall and presumed dead by Synbios’s army. He reappears in Scenario 2, apparently washed ashore at the site of a battle between Medion’s army and the Bulzome Sect. Knowing of the sect’s ties to the Vandals, Julian agrees to fight alongside Medion. When it becomes clear that the sect is attempting to kill Gracia—a child destined to become the next Innovator (a figure from the Shining series equated with a god)—Julian takes on the task of protecting him and helping him fulfill his destiny. Scenario 3 begins around the 60% mark of Scenario 2’s storyline and focuses primarily on battles against the Bulzome Sect and its allies in both Aspinia and Destonia. While Scenarios 1 and 2 take place roughly at the same time, most of Scenario 3 occurs after both, though there are some “overlaps.” Ultimately, Julian leads a three-way coalition consisting of the armies of Synbios and Medion to wage the final battle against Bulzome—a powerful Vandal who was long sealed away in another dimension and who is the true mastermind behind the conflict.
