Shin Megami Tensei

Shin Megami Tensei

The story follows an unnamed protagonist who lives in the Tokyo of the near future. When a portal to the demon realm opens, the United States authorities order a nuclear attack on Tokyo. The protagonist, along with two other secondary characters, is transported thirty years into the future and finds Earth destroyed by a demon invasion. This is now the scene of an escalating conflict between the Order of the Messiah and the Ring of Gaea, two opposing cults that seek to bring kingdoms to their respective patron gods (YHWH and Lucifer). The story is influenced by the protagonist's moral choices, which either bring him to the side of the Order or the Ring of Gaea, or make him an independent agent. The gameplay consists of first-person perspective navigation through dungeons and turn-based battles against demons. The player can recruit demons as allies by talking to them instead of fighting them, and two to three demons can be merged to create new demons.

Story

Shin Megami Tensei is set in a Tokyo of the near future, first in the year "199X" and then 30 years later in a post-apocalyptic version of the city. A rift has opened to another world, allowing demons to invade Tokyo. Using a computer program, people can communicate with the demons and summon them. Various moral alignments are presented in the story: In addition to the "neutral" middle ground, the "law" faction believes in logical order at the expense of feelings and freedom, while the "chaos" faction advocates unlimited freedom for individuals and excludes the weak.
