Story

Shenmue III begins on March 21, 1987, with Ryo Hazuki having traveled to Guilin, China, in search of his father's killer, Lan Di. There he meets a new traveling companion, Shenhua Ling, and learns of a legend from her village that foretold their journey together. The story continues as Ryo and Shenhua embark on a new journey that will take them even further into hostile territory and deeper into mystery. Part I: Bailu Village Shenmue III begins in the village of Bailu in Guilin. Shenhua suspects that Lan Di and the Chi You Men have kidnapped her adoptive father, Yunshen Yuan, which would explain his sudden mysterious disappearance. Ryo and Shenhua discover that a group of thugs have attacked several stonemasons and vandalized their homes in search of the Phoenix Mirror. Among them is the stonemason Guowei Xu. With the help of martial arts expert JiuSi Sun, Ryo defeats the leader of the thugs, Yanlang. Shenhua interrogates Yanlang and learns that her father and Xu are in Niaowu. Ryo and Shenhua are also attacked by the familiar face Chai, but Ryo beats him off.
