Story

During the annual Relic Hunter's Exhibition, Shantae and her friends watch as their Uncle Mimic unveils his latest find: an ordinary-looking lamp encased in stone. Wondering what it's for, Risky Boots and her pirates storm the exhibit and steal the lamp. Shantae fights them but is knocked out, allowing Risky to escape. Mayor Scuttlebutt blames the half-genius for the town being in turmoil and her not doing her job properly, and fires her as guardian of Scuttle Town. Although Shantae is no longer a guardian, she decides to take charge and stop Risky Boots' latest plan. Mimic reveals to Shantae that three hidden magic seals are needed to release the magic of the lamp, and Shantae sets out to find them. With the help of her friend, the zombie Rottytops, she learns that the seals are in the possession of three treasure hunters, the Barons of Sequin Land, whom she must face in order to get the seals. While pursuing the barons, Risky gets Rottytops and her brothers to kidnap Mimic for her, promising them a lifetime supply of the coffee they need to stay sane, and most importantly, Shantae's brains for Rottytops. Shantae, now in possession of the three seals, reaches them when Risky uncovers their deception. Shantae hands over the seals in exchange for Mimic's life. Risky then sucks Shantae's magical half into the lamp before revealing to Shantae that she has the power to capture and enslave genies, then unleashes the magical half as the evil Nega-Shantae and orders her to destroy Shantae. Shantae manages to defeat her counterpart and escape from Risky's lair when it collapses. She reunites with her friends, who promise to help her defend Scuttle Town and adjust to her new life as a human. The mayor is impressed by her dedication and reinstates her as the town's guardian.
