Rendering Ranger: R2
"Rendering Ranger R2" is an action game developed by Rainbow Arts and released in 1995 by Virgin Interactive exclusively for the Super Famicom in Japan. The game was originally intended to be released in the West under the name "Targa," but that version was canceled because Rainbow Arts was unable to find a publisher at the time. The game was developed by Manfred Trenz and uses pre-rendered graphics. Players control the eponymous “Rendering Ranger,” a special forces soldier tasked with defending Earth and its remaining inhabitants from a devastating alien invasion. There is a high-score screen, and throughout the post-apocalyptic adventure, players can collect many different types of laser weapons. Players can choose between three and seven lives. However, there are no “continues,” so practice is essential to winning the game. The player can take five hits before losing a life, but falling into pits automatically results in the loss of a life. Weapons are located in floating spheres, and each color contains a different type of weapon.
