Real Bout Fatal Fury

Real Bout Fatal Fury

Real Bout changes the game controls from the previous Fatal Fury games by reducing the number of attack buttons from four to three: a standard punch button, a kick button, and a "Strong Attack" button that represents either a stronger punch or kick attack depending on the character. The game retains the three-level "rollover" system from Fatal Fury 3, where there is a main level for combat and foreground and background levels for dodging attacks or jumping towards your opponent. Now you can perform an "oversway" (or level change) towards the background or foreground using a special button. Real Bout introduces a power meter that fills up when the player performs normal or special techniques against the opponent or defends him/herself, similar to many super move meters in other fighting games. With the power meter, players can perform one of three types of special techniques, depending on how high the power meter is. Real Bout also introduces stages with ring outs, a gameplay feature previously introduced in 3D fighting games like Virtua Fighter. If the player carries out certain attacks on the opponent while he/she is on the perimeter, the character will eventually destroy the barrier that keeps the opponent in the ring and will be able to throw him/her out of the stage for an easy victory.

Story

An official translation of SNK's story is as follows: When the battle for them is over, the ruler Geese Howard holds the Jin scrolls in his hands. "Hehehe...that means I have all three scrolls in my possession..." He promptly turns to the man with the bandana. "Billy, dispose of them." "What, for what reason, sir?" "None of these scrolls will contain any of the secrets I need. It's enough for me to be considered the strongest to get these legendary scrolls. That's all. As long as I know that I am the first person to collect them in 2,000 years of history, I will have no use for them." "But even if you don't dispose of them..." "These scrolls have a different meaning among the Jin brothers. I don't want to understand what they are capable of in their hands." "...Even Geese, who has just been revived, has something he fears..." "Don't get me wrong. Even Geese Howard, resurrected from the darkness, doesn't want to repeat the same mistakes...as he did with those foolish Bogards..." Billy Kane was petrified and could not bring himself to say anything against the flames of dark hatred that blazed within Geese. Geese closed his eyes deeply and looked out the window. "Billy, what's the city's current reaction?" "Sir, they are frightened by your apparent defeat," Billy managed to reply. "Is everything all right at King of Fighters?" "Yes sir, Kim Kapwhan, Duck King and all the other recipients seem to have responded positively." "Hehe... the last tournament didn't do anything for me at all. It's time to remind them that Geese Howard is the sole ruler of this city." The long silence is broken and the lights of Geese Tower come to life. As the fangs of the wolf thirst for blood, a shudder is felt throughout the city. After stealing the Jin Scrolls of Immortality, Geese Howard takes control of South Town once again. He hosts a new King of Fighters tournament and invites his nemesis Terry Bogard to settle their battle once and for all!
