Story

RAILGRADE is a construction strategy game about building railroad networks to connect future off-world cities with valuable industries. As the last remaining employee of a corporate-owned colony on Earth, it's up to you to save what's left of the planet's economy after a catastrophic management failure. With dozens of trains at your disposal, it's up to you to manage the production of goods and ensure the delivery of essential resources to create a thriving industrial colony once again. In a near future, corporations have turned distant planets into industrial colonies to harvest their resources for commercial gain. Your employer, Nakatani Chemicals, has lost control of a colony after a complete economic collapse - now it's up to you to save what's left with the help of a retrofitted train. Build tracks, buy trains and transport the cargo you need to reach your destination. Develop a truly successful transportation economy by building the most efficient system possible, and perhaps what's left of the colony and your career will be restored. With simple construction tools, it's easy to get started building a bustling railroad delivery system. Think carefully about how you lay the tracks to negotiate mountains, ravines or other difficult terrain, and build the fastest or most cost-effective route for delivery. Control resource input and output, optimize workflow or increase production speed with catalysts and workers. If you maintain a constant level of production across all industries or supply enough water and other essential goods, the colony's cities will once again grow and prosper. Use your income to buy new locomotives with different features, build useful buildings like a law office or water pumps, and even research new industries to invest in: like steel, oil and ore. It's up to you to decide whether to invest in the growth of your city or just focus on your own profit.
