R-Type Leo

R-Type Leo

R-Type Leo is a horizontally scrolling arcade shooter game. It is a spin-off of the R-Type series and the last entry to be released in Arcades. R-Type Leo was originally a shoot 'em up game developed by Nanao before Irem turned it into an R-Type project instead. It is also the first R-Type game that can be played with two players at the same time.

Story

The plot deviates from the original storyline, although it is canonical in a way: between the constant conflict with the Bydo Empire, humanity is in a financially and technologically peaceful state. A space project called Project Paradise, long held back, finally saw the light of day. The project involved the construction of an artificial terrestrial planet called Eden as a possible retreat for humans. However, after the planet is built and commissioned, a malfunction occurs in Major - the bio-computer system responsible for maintaining Eden - which takes control of the planet's defenses and attacks humanity. It is now up to the newly developed R-9 variations, the Leo, to fly in and stop Major's attack on its creators.
