Pokémon Stadium 2 has a story, but you advance in the game by winning trophies in the stadium and completing the gym leader's castle. When you win all the cups and complete the leader's castle, the player's rival will appear. Defeating the rival unlocks Round 2, in which the player must challenge the stadium, gym leader's castle, and rival again to complete the game. However, they have different Pokémon and the difficulty is much higher. Stadium: The player starts by selecting 6 different Pokémon. There are 250 different Pokémon to choose from, including some legendary Pokémon. Pokémon tournaments are held in the stadium. There are four cups that you can participate in. Each round consists of eight battles, and each Cup, with the exception of the Small Cup and the Large Cup, consists of four rounds named after Pokéballs that must be completed to win the Cup.
