Plok

Plok

Plok is a side-scrolling platform game developed by Software Creations and released in 1993 for the Super Nintendo Entertainment System. The game is a traditional platformer starring a character named Plok.

Story

As a king, Plok lives on Akrillic, a large island in the fictional region of Polyesta. When Plok wakes up one morning and notices that his large square flag on the pole on the roof of his house has been stolen, he sets out to find it. He sails from Akrillic to nearby Cotton Island to find it from there. After putting up a few false flags because it's getting on his nerves, Plok meets the two giant creatures responsible for putting up the flags, the Bobbins Brothers. Plok tells them about his grandfather who warned him about the Bobbins and decides to fight them for the big flag. After defeating the Bobbins Brothers and getting his big square flag back, Plok sailed back to Akrillic, until out of the blue the next day he found that the island had been infested and overrun by fleas with various eggs, a pesky two-legged blue insect that frequently hops around. He quickly figured out that the theft of his large flag was just a decoy to lure him away from Akrillic and leave him unguarded because of his obsession with flags. Plok must travel through Akrillic and get rid of every single flea on the surface to reclaim his island in peace. Halfway through the game, Plok places the large square flag back where it belongs, and then takes a break while sitting on the base of his grandfather Grandpappy Plok's statue, hoping there is a useful item to help him deal with the fleas. He takes a nap and has a strange dream about his grandfather's search for an amulet 50 years ago. On the journey from his home to Legacy Island, Grandfather has the same experiences as his grandson in the present: he traverses bizarre obstacles, discovers fake artifacts like a vase, and gets to deal with the same Bobbin brothers, but with their third brother, Irving. After defeating the Bobbin brothers, Grandpappy finally digs up an amulet and sails victoriously back to his Akrillic home. Back in the present, Plok woke up from a dream and discovered that the amulet is at the bottom of the statue. Plok's mission to get his island back continues with an ability that allows him to turn into a saw. Plok makes his way to various locations on the island and encounters other creatures that also want to take over the island: the mages Penkinos, a large spider Womack and a giant humanoid rock creature Rockyfella. After facing them as he clears out all of Akrillic's fleas and raises the flags, Plok descends into Brendammi Bog, where the source of all bizarre (yet aggressive) fleas is located: the Fleapit. There, Plok notices that various gifts await him as he rides on different vehicles with different types of weapons. Plok travels deep down into the Fleapit and eventually challenges a large insect responsible for hatching all the fleas on his island, as well as a ruler of the same species, the Flea Queen. Plok finally defeats her with an insect spray and goes home to take a well-deserved sleep on a green chair to save the day.
