There are 50 stages in 17 locations: Mt. Fuji, Mt. Keirin, the Temple of the Emerald Buddha, Angkor Wat, Ayers Rock, the Taj Mahal, Leningrad, Paris, London, Barcelona, Athens, Egypt, Kenya, New York, Mayan ruins, Antarctica and finally Easter Island. Each place has a unique background that shows the most famous landmarks of the region. The stages contain a different arrangement of blocks, some of which disappear after being shot, others do not, and still others are hidden and can reveal bonuses. The stages start with a different number and size of balloons. The largest balloon is shared in the first three shots, and the fourth and smallest balloons disappear after shooting. Each player starts with a single harpoon. When a balloon is burst, special weapons can fall down. At a certain point in the phase drops food, which is worth several thousand bonus points. If a player touches a balloon of any size, the player dies and both players must start the stage over. If both players touch a balloon at the same time, only player 1 loses a life, but this is somewhat offset because if both players reach a bonus or weapon at the same time, only player 1 gets it. Players start with 3-5 lives, depending on the dip switch setting. Additional lives are also given when certain scores are reached. The stage ends when all balloons have been successfully cleared. The game ends when all stages are completed and our hero duo rides off into the sunset on the beach of Easter Island in their jeep. In some later versions there are more than 17 locations.
