One Hour One Life
A multiplayer survival game with parenting and civilization building by Jason Rohrer.
Story
This game is about playing a small role in a much bigger story. You only live for an hour, but time and space in this game are infinite. You can only do so much in one lifetime, but it will take hundreds of generations to fully explore the tech tree in this game. This game is also about family trees. You have a mom who takes care of you as a baby, and hopefully you take care of a baby yourself later on. And your mother is another player. And your baby is another player. You're building something that you can use in your lifetime, but you have to realize that what you're building is not for you in the end, it's for your children and all the countless others who will come after you. Proudly use your grandfather's axe and then pass it on to your own grandchild when the end of your life approaches. And think of each life as a unique story. I was a child born into this situation, but I eventually grew up. I built a bakery near the wheat fields. Over time, I watched my grandparents and parents grow old and die. I had a few kids too, but they're grown up now ... and look at my character now! She's an old woman. What a life has passed me by in this little hour. When I die, this life will be over and gone forever. I can be reborn, but I can never live this unique story again. Everything changes. I will be born as a different person in a different place and time, with a different unique story that I will experience in the next hour...
