Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee

Oddworld: Abe's Oddysee is the first game set in the fictional Oddworld universe. It is a platform game with puzzle elements that focuses on portraying a weak, inferior character in a dark and hostile world, who must rely on his cunning to outwit enemies and overcome dangers. The game has pre-rendered background graphics and uses CG movies of a similar style to advance the story between levels. The main character, Abe, is almost completely helpless: he can't use weapons and is usually killed instantly by his brutal enemies when he faces them directly. For this reason, most of the game consists of careful exploration, timed movement, sneaking and outwitting enemies by various means: Throwing stones to confuse them, luring them into traps, etc. Abe can run, jump, climb, tiptoe, duck and roll; in most areas these actions are essential for his survival. In some stages, Abe rides a large animal called Elum. Abe's only special ability is chanting, which he can use to stun or possess certain enemies for a while. When Abe takes possession of an enemy, he gains its abilities: For example, when he takes possession of a wild slig's body, the player can shoot with his machine gun, communicate with other creatures of his kind and even commit suicide to clear the way for Abe.
