Nightmare Creatures

Nightmare Creatures

The story of Nightmare Creatures is based on gothic horror elements from the 19th century. The story starts in 1666, when a devil-worshipping sect called the Brotherhood of Hecate conducts sinister experiments in London to conquer the city and later the world. The Brotherhood was trying to develop an elixir that would give them superhuman powers. However, instead of the superhumans they had hoped for, their experiments created only grotesque monsters. When they decided to use these creatures as an army of conquest, one of them, Samuel Pepys, set fire to their headquarters, which led to the first great fire of London. The game takes place in 1834, when London is beset by several evil events. Monsters are sighted and it is reported that people are mutating into godless creatures and that the dead are awakening from their graves and walking among the living. All of London panics and is vulnerable to the schemes of Adam Crowley, a mad scientist and occultist who enlists the help of the Brotherhood.

Story

The story behind “Nightmare Creatures” draws on elements of 19th-century Gothic horror and begins in 1666, when a devil-worshipping cult known as the “Brotherhood of Hecate” conducted sinister experiments in London with the aim of conquering first the city and then the entire world. The Brotherhood attempted to develop an elixir that would grant them superhuman powers. But instead of the intended superhumans, their experiments produced grotesque monsters known as “Nightmare Creatures.” When they decided to use these creatures as an army of conquest, one of their members, Samuel Pepys, set their headquarters on fire, leading to the Great Fire of London. The game is set in 1834, when London falls victim to a series of eerie events. There are reports of monster sightings, as well as of people transforming into sinister creatures and the dead rising from their graves to wander among the living. All of London is in a panic and vulnerable to the machinations of Adam Crowley (based on the occultist Aleister Crowley), a mad scientist and occultist who enlists the help of the Brotherhood. A book is delivered to Ignatius Blackward, a priest and expert in the occult. He discovers that it is the long-lost diary of Samuel Pepys, which contains the Brotherhood’s research findings. Knowing he needs help, Ignatius sends the diary to a renowned American immunologist named Dr. Jean Franciscus from New Orleans, who arrives with his daughter, Nadia Franciscus. But Jean has been killed and the book stolen. Ignatius and Nadia are at Jean’s funeral, where they are approached by a man who hands them a note reading, “Find out about Adam Crowley, Brotherhood of Hecate – HVHJ.” Ignatius and Nadia head to the address written on the note, hoping to track down Crowley and neutralize the monsters.
