Story

NEOTOKYO° is set some 30-40 years in the future in a Japan that is drifting into social/political unrest due to the inevitable pressures of changing times. The Japanese government is grappling with intensifying external (Asian geopolitics) and internal (economic/social) problems, and pressure is mounting from within Japan to return to the days when the country exerted its influence through military might and strength. A failed bill to amend the Japanese constitution (allowing the Japanese military to take offensive action outside the country) leads to an attempted military coup by members of the Japanese armed forces (GSDF). The coup attempt fails, but it was close to succeeding. To prevent further coup attempts, the Japanese Prime Minister forms a division within the National Security Forces (NSF) of the Ministry of the Interior, GROUP SIX. They report directly to the Prime Minister and are sworn to protect the Japanese constitution at all costs. They immediately hear rumors of a renegade section of the GSDF Special Forces (JINRAI) planning a second coup attempt. These JINRAI are the Special Operations Group 43 (SOG43), fierce nationalists who are loyal to their love of country and want to help Japan regain a strong and powerful position. Thus begins the war in the shadows between the NSF and the JINRAI.
