Mortal Kombat

"Mortal Kombat" is a 2011 fighting game developed by NetherRealm Studios. It is the ninth main installment in the "Mortal Kombat" series and a soft reboot of the franchise. Although the story begins during the events of Mortal Kombat: Armageddon, it looks back to the earliest phase of the Mortal Kombat series: the events of the first three games. The story follows Raiden, the divine protector of Earth, as he attempts to alter the outcome of the Armageddon events by making contact with his past self.

Story

Seven martial artists from Earth must fight in the wizard Shang Tsung's super-secret tournament. In the last 9 of these tournaments, Shang Tsung's four-armed mutant bodyguard Goro has won them all. Should he also win the tenth tournament, Earth will be at the mercy of Shang Tsung's Outworld. Playable characters include Raiden, the God of Thunder, who has been invited to the tournament in human (and therefore killable) form; Liu Kang, a Shaolin monk who wants to stop Shang Tsung; Johnny Cage, a Hollywood movie star who wants the publicity; Sonya Blade, a US Special Forces agent; Kano, a tyrant being pursued by Sonya Blade; Sub-Zero, a mercenary ninja on a mission to assassinate Shang Tsung; and Scorpion, a murdered ninja who has risen from the dead to kill Sub-Zero, the man who murdered him.
