Metroid: Other M

The game belongs to the Metroid series and offers both a first and third person perspective. It is the first part of the series that includes melee attacks, which can only be carried out when the opponent's health is reduced to a certain level. The game puts a great emphasis on the storyline and characterization, making extensive use of movie sequences and voice recordings. Regular gameplay takes place in third-person perspective, with players holding the Wii Remote horizontally. Samus can jump, fire the arm cannon, and transform into a morph ball that can roll down narrow hallways and drop energy bombs. The gameplay is similar to early Metroid titles, but the game's environments are three-dimensional and movement is not limited to a two-dimensional plane. Other M is the first game in the series to include a melee combat system. With well-timed button presses, players can use special techniques, such as the Sense Move, which lets them dodge enemy attacks, and the Overblast, in which Samus jumps on the enemy and fires a charged shot at close range. When the Wii Remote is pointed at the screen, the viewpoint changes to the first-person perspective, in which players can aim at targets and fire missiles; however, they cannot move in this perspective. There are several situations where players have to constantly switch between game modes, such as when they fight a horde of flying enemies in third person while switching to first person to destroy their spawn points. In addition, the first-person perspective is also used during exploration, e.g. to find hidden items.
