Mega Man, known as Rockman in Japan, is a 1987 action-platform video game developed and published by Capcom for the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). It was directed by Akira Kitamura, with Nobuyuki Matsushima as lead programmer, and is the first game in the Mega Man series as well as the original video game series. Mega Man was produced by a small team specifically for the home console market—a first for Capcom, which had previously focused on arcade titles.
Story
The brilliant scientist Dr. Light had the idea of building fully functional, human-like experimental robots that would perform certain tasks in everyday life. Dr. Light and his assistant Dr. Wily, encouraged by their first nearly human robot - Mega Man - developed six more humanoids, all programmed to perform certain rituals. But with the exception of Mega Man, all of Dr. Light's experiments with near-human robots went awry. Dr. Wily's assistant became disloyal and reprogrammed Dr. Light's humanoids, who were now bent on destroying the opposition so that Dr. Wily could control the world and its resources. Mega Man resists the reprogramming and is chosen to be the defender of the universe and its inhabitants. Mega Man dares to single-handedly invade seven different realms of Monsteropolis and eliminate the leaders and followers of these dominions.
