Magic: The Gathering - Battlemage
Magic: The Gathering: BattleMage is a real-time strategy game released in January 1997 by Acclaim for both PC and PlayStation. A version for the Sega Saturn was also in development, but it was canceled in mid-1997. In addition to the real-time strategy gameplay, BattleMage features a head-to-head mode. The story takes place on the continent of Corondor, where a Planeswalker named Ravidel forces the most powerful mages to fight each other in order to ultimately destroy them and conquer the land. The game received poor reviews due to its unfair AI, unfriendly user interface, and unbalanced gameplay. [Citation needed] Spectrum Holobyte filed a lawsuit after Acclaim released the PC version in January 1997, claiming that Acclaim had violated an agreement the two companies had reached in November 1996, which established a release schedule for the game, with the two companies set to release it for different platforms. In October 2018, the rights to the game were acquired by the Canadian production company Liquid Media Group, along with other titles that originally belonged to Acclaim Entertainment.
