Lollipop Chainsaw

Lollipop Chainsaw

Lollipop Chainsaw is the "unlethal" story of cute and murderous zombie hunter Juliet Starling and her quest to find the cause of a colossal zombie outbreak. With her fearsome chainsaw in hand, Juliet slices, dices and splits her way through hordes of the undead, but soon finds that the horde is just the prelude to a festival of zombie rockers out to kill the chainsaw-wielding cheerleader.

Story

On Juliet Starling's (voiced by Tara Strong in English and Eri Kitamura/Yōko Hikasa in Japanese) 18th birthday, she heads to the San Romero High School park to meet her boyfriend Nick Carlyle (voiced by Michael Rosenbaum in English and Kenichi Suzumura in Japanese), who will be meeting her family for the first time. Unfortunately, a zombie epidemic has broken out, so Juliet has to fight hordes of the undead on her way to meet Nick. When she arrives, she discovers that Nick is fighting a zombie that tried to eat her, so he gets bitten in her place. When she realizes that he is becoming a zombie, Juliet decides to decapitate him to save him. When he regains consciousness, he finds that he is still alive despite his severed head. Juliet explains to him that she is a zombie hunter and that she has performed a magical ritual on him that will keep his soul from being turned into a zombie and retain his humanity. Juliet attaches Nick's head to her belt and fights hordes of zombies on her way to her teacher Morikawa (voiced by Bruce Locke in English and Bin Shimada in Japanese). Once they are united, Morikawa explains the situation, explaining that the universe is divided into three realms: Earth, the Land Beyond Words, and the Rotten World, a hellish realm inhabited by demons and zombies.[7] Morikawa tells Juliet and Nick that someone has opened a portal between Earth and the Rotten World through a combination of black magic and explosives, and Morikawa sets out to find the culprit. Juliet reunites with Morikawa after fighting zombies who want to blow her up, and finds the man responsible for the outbreak, an evil goth named Swan (voiced by Sean Gunn in English and Nobuhiko Okamoto in Japanese), but she can't stop him from summoning five demons into the world who take the form of zombies centered around rock 'n' roll themes.[8] Morikawa tries to stop Swan from unleashing the demons, but he is mortally wounded. Swan sends the first zombie overlord, Zed (voiced by Jimmy Urine in English and Shintaro Asanuma in Japanese), after her, but she kills him in a fight and sends him back to the Tainted World. Morikawa orders her to clean the school and kill the four remaining zombie Overlords before she dies. Juliet hunts the Overlords, getting advice from her sisters Cordelia Starling (voiced by Linda Cardellini in English and Mayumi Asano in Japanese), the older, and Rosalind Starling (voiced by Kimberly Brooks in English and Mariya Ise in Japanese), the younger sister.[9] Juliet continues to explore the school and fight zombies. In the process, she meets Vikke, the second zombie overlord summoned by Swan, with whom she duels aboard his airship and sends him back to Rotten World. The longship crashes into the O'Bannon farm. Juliet is attacked by nightmares projected by Mariska, the zombie queen of psychedelia. But Juliet eventually shakes off the nightmares and confronts Mariska herself, defeating her and sending her back to the rotten world. Juliet's father Gideon arrives and takes her back to town, where Juliet, Nick and Gideon infiltrate the Fulci Fun Center and find that it is full of zombies. Josey, the zombie overlord in charge of the center, calls Juliet to his lair on the roof of the building and in a duel Juliet defeats him as well. With only one zombie overlord left, Juliet's family joins forces to infiltrate an unfinished cathedral in the heart of the city where the last overlord, Lewis Legend, lurks. In his lair, Swan taunts Juliet that Lewis is more than a match for her, but eventually the situation reverses. Just like all the other Overlords, Lewis utters a Latin chant after her death. Swan appears and applauds Juliet for her work, revealing the cruel fact that she was just a pawn in his game and that he let all the Zombie Overlords die so that the true Zombie Lord could return to this world. Swan also tells Juliet that it was she and all the other students at the school who made him a monster through torture and bullying. (The flashbacks shown, however, suggest that Swan may have had feelings for Juliet and that her relationship with Nick drove him even further insane.) Basically, the zombie outbreak was his act of revenge against the students of the school and society in general that had made him an outcast. Juliet tries to make him see reason, but Swan, indifferent to any attempt to make him see reason, shoots off his head to end the ritual, and is absorbed along with the rest of the undead into a black vortex that condenses into the zombie of all zombies: Killabilly, whom Juliet must fight. Juliet fights Killabilly and is contacted by the ghost of Morikawa, who gives her advice along with Nick. Halfway through the fight, Gideon drives his explosives-laden motorcycle into the maw of Killabilly and is seemingly killed.
