Story

he game takes place in a world called Legaia, populated by people and objects called Seru, which can connect with people to give them fantastic powers. While humans and Seru once lived peacefully side by side, about ten years before the game began, the world was covered by a mist that drove the Seru insane when they came into contact with them. The Seru turned into monsters that attacked the humans, and human civilization almost collapsed. At the time of the start of the game, the human survivors have gathered in remote regions to hide from the fog. The game follows Vahn, the quiet main hero, Noa, an excitable wild child, and Gala, a gruff warrior monk, as they search for ten Genesis Trees throughout Legaia to defeat the evil fog that covers the world. The three heroes join forces with entities called Ra-Seru, who give them powers like Seru but are immune to the effects of the mist. They travel across three continents, revive Genesis trees that push the fog back over small areas, and destroy the fog generators that create it. Sometimes they come into conflict with Songi, Gala's childhood rival, who has teamed up with a Seru and is mutating more and more into a monster. Towards the end of their quest, in the destroyed city of Conkram, the heroes manage to travel back in time to find the origin of the mist and put an end to it once and for all. They find out that the fog was created as a biological weapon by Prince Cort, Noa's brother and the prince of Conkram. In the past, they can't save Conkram or Noa's parents, but when they return to the present, they destroy the last fog generator and defeat Cort. Before he dies, however, Cort manages to merge with the Juggernaut, a seru that has grown gigantic due to exposure to the mist. The heroes triumphantly return to Vahn's hometown of Rim Elm, but are soon attacked by Songi and the giant Seru Juggernaut, which devours the entire city and its citizens. After defeating Songi, the heroes must travel into the Juggernaut to defeat Cort once again. The game ends with the destruction of Juggernaut, the rebirth of Cort as a baby (taken care of by Noa) and the final restoration of Rim Elm and all its citizens.
