Kasparov Chessmate
The game is supported by chess grandmaster Garry Kasparov. You can create a personal profile with your name, your MSN nickname for online/network games, your country, and a face icon. Choose a side (black or white) and the game type: "Local" against the computer or another player, either without a time limit or with a set time limit; "Online" via the MSN Game Zone or a computer network; and "Kasparov Chess Club" with 45 club members in a single "exhibition game" against any member or a "championship" to become club champion against all members, each of whom has different skills and ratings from bronze to gold, with "hints" available during the game. The actual game features an easily accessible "history" of all moves and the option to "resign" or play a "draw." The chessboard can be displayed in 2D or 3D and is designed in the style of Staunton Black & White, Staunton Rosewood, or Modern with algebraic or figurative notation. Moves are made immediately or can be adjusted with a slider for faster or slower play. For beginners who are not yet familiar with chess, the "Training" (tutorial) section covers the basic rules of the game through to winning. Strategies for openings and defenses through to middle and endgames. Useful tips, possible traps and problems. Check out a selection of 64 historical games played by Grandmaster Kasparov himself, including famous matches against various top chess players and against IBM's Deep Blue supercomputer.
