Ikai

Ikai

Fear and dread prevail after the darkest stories from Japanese folklore come to life in this psychological first-person horror game. Ikai is set in a feudal era and revolves around the priestess of a shrine who struggles to defeat the ghosts of her past and present.

Story

Even among the most skeptical villagers, rumors have spread, causing fear and hysteria. This time it's not just about gossip. The blood-stained leaves indicate that evil creatures are getting closer and closer to the people. It is believed that a new demon has appeared in the underworld. His will is to pass through the gate into our world as soon as he finds what he is looking for. In such a situation, the priest must go to the village and leave the shrine to the control of his niece, the priestess. The people's fear has not yet reached the shrine far away in the mountains, where the priestess Naoko is working as usual and is too busy to worry. As she sweeps and sweeps, time passes, with or without the priest. Without attaching much importance to the kind of demon and ghost stories she attributes to frightened children, Naoko leaves the shrine to get to the river before it gets dark. The villagers' fears seem to take shape in the gloomy forest. She walks on, increasingly tense, until her doubts are dispelled; but not her fears. Soon she loses consciousness of her soul and body and falls to the ground; almost dead, almost alive. The shrine's bell cries out for help, but it is no longer a sacred place. All the gods have disappeared and made way for monsters, ghosts and spirits.
