Higurashi: When They Cry is a Japanese crime visual novel. The series revolves around a group of young friends and the strange events that happen in the rural village of Hinamizawa where they live. The gameplay requires relatively little interaction with the player, as most of the game consists of text dialogues. The original version did not include voice acting for the characters. The game contains pauses where the player can receive various tips. These tips allow the player to read various additional information that may or may not be useful in solving the puzzle.
