G-Police

G-Police is a combat flight simulator from 1997, set in a hypothetical future where corporations run space colonies. The player is Jeff Slater, a futuristic helicopter pilot who joins the G-Police to investigate the death of his sister.
Story
As this game is set in the year 2097, the introductory sequence also tells the story of the setting: In the year 2057, the depletion of Earth's resources coincided with the increasing exploration of space. After a catastrophic war over dwindling resources that ended 10 years before the events of G-Police, Earth's governments were stripped of their military might. As a result, powerful corporations had taken control of Earth and the burgeoning space colonies. The Government Police (G-Police) was formed by Earth's remaining Coalition government to maintain order in these colonies. In the final part of the introductory sequence, Slater, the game's protagonist, introduces himself as a war veteran who has joined the G-Police to investigate the suicide of his sister Elaine, as he suspects she was murdered. He also describes his opinion of the G-Police: they lack authority and turn a blind eye to "shady corporate dealings" while trying to maintain order. He describes the Havoc fighters as obsolete and the pilots as a mixture of desperate war veterans and naive idealists. The action takes place in a futuristic city setting, occasionally illustrated by cutscenes. In the first levels of the game, Slater fights against enemy gangs. The G-Police suspect that the "Krakov" corporation is supplying the gangs with weapons. However, the gangs carry out an assassination attempt on the president of Krakov. In the assassination attempt, Hiroshi Tachikawa - a pilot who Slater describes as flying his gunship "as if he was born in it" - dies when his gunship crashes after a mysterious malfunction. In the interest of morality, the nature of his death is covered up; Slater realizes that this incident is reminiscent of Elaine's death. After numerous riots, invasions and terrorist attacks on his staff and property, Krakov blames a rival corporation, "Nanosoft", and begins to openly attack him with his private army. As there is no evidence of involvement with the criminal gangs, the G-Police protect Nanosoft and eventually destroy Krakov's military might. However, the G-Police investigate exactly why Krakov and Nanosoft fought each other. In the second half of the game, a conflict arises between the G-Police and Nanosoft's private forces, who attack the G-Police after Krakov's collapse, both out of panic over the investigation and to tie up loose ends.
