Front Mission 4

Front Mission 4

In the year 2096, Wanzers ("walking tanks" mecha) form the backbone of many armed forces. The European Community is enjoying a period of relative peace when it is surprised by sudden attacks on German bases by a mysterious force. To investigate, it is decided to send the EC Armor Tactics Research Corps, also known as "Durandal." Elsa, a young recruit of the Durandal, soon becomes involved in an international conspiracy. Meanwhile, the nation of Venezuela attempts to secede from the United Continental States (UCS). UCS forces are dispatched to restore order and remove Governor Diaz. During a routine patrol, Sgt. Darril and his patrol witness a cargo plane being shot down. When they go to investigate, they discover it is a plane carrying some of Diaz's gold. For demoralized UCS soldiers like Darril, this smells like an opportunity.... Front Mission 4 is a turn-based strategy game in which the action alternates between two different mission areas: Elsa and Darril. You'll control the forces of both characters and the story will advance simultaneously. Most of the battles take place on an overview map, divided into a player phase and an enemy phase. Typically, a Wanzer can move once and use his remaining action points (AP) to shoot at the enemy or use an ability. Those who are successful in combat receive experience points, which they can exchange for new abilities such as rapid fire or dodge bonuses. Each character has a certain limit of skill slots, which are replenished differently by abilities. Although each character has a skill preference at the beginning, there is no limit to the skills each pilot can learn. Money that you find on the map (along with items) or earn after a successful battle can be used to upgrade Wanzer and buy new weapons.

Story

The story of Front Mission 4 is set in the year 2096 in Venezuela and Europe. Since the revelation of the true causes of the 2nd Huffman conflict in 2092, the world became suspicious of the Republic of Zaftra. Zaftra began to lose foreign investment and many companies withdrew from the Union, causing great economic losses. Superpowers such as the United States of the New Continent (USN) rejected the Union's offers to import its natural resources, which were the main driving force of its economy. Faced with a failing economy and growing distrust from the world community, the Republic of Zaftra disbanded the Peace Mediation Organization (PMO) in 2094. Meanwhile, the discovery of mineral resources in Poland led the European Community (EC) to stop importing raw materials from Zaftra. As a result, Zaftra citizens began to emigrate to other countries in search of work. In 2096, the Republic of Zaftra returns to the spotlight after a mysterious blitzkrieg by EC military bases plunges Europe into a looming commodity crisis. Elsewhere in the world, Venezuela suddenly declares independence from the USN.
