Front Mission 3

Front Mission 3

Yokosuka, Japan, 2112 A.D. Young student Kazuki Takemura works as a test pilot at Kirishima Industries, a manufacturing company for military battle tanks (walking wanzers), mechanized walking robots with human-like movements. Kazuki has just finished testing the combat capabilities of the new Zeinslev prototype in the lab. When he is finished with his tasks, he is asked by his best friend Ryogo to help with a delivery to the Japanese Defense Force (JDF). This simple decision is crucial to where Kazuki is when strange things start happening in Japan. A large explosion, a tank theft, his sister Alysia being hunted, rumors of a powerful weapon, and accusations from agents of the OCU and USN complicate the situation. Kazuki becomes embroiled in a plot of conflicting loyalties and is attacked by various factions. He must recruit more characters and wanzers to be victorious in the battle, and follow clues to find out what is going on.

Story

There are two storylines in Front Mission 3, both of which revolve around Japanese Wanzer test pilots Kazuki Takemura and Ryogo Kusama. By making a decision early in the game, the player can play either the DHZ scenario or the USN scenario. The DHZ scenario features Japanese scientist Aliciana "Alisa" Takemura, while the USN scenario revolves around scientist Emir "Emma" Klamsky. Although both scenarios have different characters and storylines, they share a number of events and locations in the game. Due to the storytelling approach, it is unknown which of the two scenarios is canonically linked to Front Mission 5: Scars of the War. On October 31, Kazuki begins testing a new Wanzer prototype at the Kirishima Heavy Industries test site near Okinawa. After the test is completed, he is informed that some Wanzers need to be taken to the JDF base in Yokosuka. Ryogo asks Kazuki if he can accompany him to deliver the Wanzers. If the player decides to go with him, they play the USN scenario. If the player does not go with him, they play the DHZ scenario. In either case, Kazuki and Ryogo are eventually tasked with bringing the Kirishima prototypes to the base in Yokosuka. As they prepare the tanks for delivery, an explosion causes Kazuki to try to go into the base itself. The two test pilots are eventually forced to leave the base. When Kazuki learns that his sister Alisa has recently been transferred to the base, Kazuki and Ryogo eventually find themselves back at the facility.
