Final Fantasy IV: The After Years

Final Fantasy IV: The After Years

FINAL FANTASY IV: THE AFTER YEARS is a direct sequel to FINAL FANTASY IV. It is a Japanese-style role-playing game released in an episodic format. The game uses mechanics, assets and graphics from different versions of FINAL FANTASY IV. Characters travel across the world map (although the entire map only becomes accessible in the final story arc The Crystals), fight random enemies, enter towns to rest, buy equipment and talk to other characters, go into various dungeons to obtain items and boss battles. The battles use the same Active Time Battle (ATB) system as in FINAL FANTASY IV, but it has been improved in several ways. The class system from FINAL FANTASY IV remains largely intact, but has been reworked and many new abilities have been added to the characters. The WiiWare port of the game features several graphical improvements over the mobile version, including a larger screen resolution, clearer menu screens and fonts, and improved character portraits. The English localization follows in the footsteps of the DS remake of Final Fantasy IV. It is written similarly and uses the same translations of names and terms. Some changes have been made in the English version, including the alteration of Ceodore's official character image to westernize his face, as well as changes to several female characters to make their clothing less revealing.

Seventeen years have passed since the end of the war, and the son of King Cecil and Queen Rosa of Baron has grown into a young man. Prince Ceodore has enlisted in the air fleet, the Red Wings, and is eager to fulfill the expectations placed on his blood and standing. Once again, a new moon has appeared in the sky, and with it vast hordes of monsters bent on destruction. The brief peace that the Blue Planet enjoyed is now under the shadow of an impending catastrophe.
