Faxanadu

Faxanadu

Faxandu is for the Famicom and the NES. The name was licensed by Falcom and was developed and released in Japan in 1987. Nintendo also released the game on the world market in 1990. It can be considered a side story of Xanadu, the second part of Falcom's long-running RPG series Dragon Slayer. The title is a combination of "Famicom" and "Xanadu".

Story

The player-controlled protagonist is an unidentified wanderer. He has no name, although the Japanese version allows the player to choose one. The game begins with him approaching his hometown of Eolis after a long absence and finding it in a dilapidated state and practically abandoned. The Elf King tells him that the water of the Elf Well, the life source of the dwarves, has stopped gushing and gives him 1500 gold pieces, the currency of the game, so that he can prepare for his journey to find the cause. As the story unfolds, it turns out that elves and dwarves lived in harmony under the World Tree until the Evil One emerged from a fallen meteorite. The Evil One turned the dwarves into monsters against their will and incited them against the elves. The Dwarf King Grieve swallowed his magical sword before he was transformed and hid it in his own body to prevent the Evil One from getting his hands on it. Only with this sword can the evil one be destroyed. His journey takes him to four areas of the overworld: the strut of the tree, the inside of the trunk, the branches of the tree and finally the mountain fortress of the dwarves.
