EARTH 2150: ESCAPE FROM THE BLUE PLANET The 21st century was supposed to herald the dawn of a new era. The wars, famines, and suffering of the past 20 millennia were to become a distant, fading memory as scientific advances brought worldwide peace and prosperity. Toward the end of the 20th century, a now-forgotten U.S. president even went so far as to officially proclaim the arrival of a New World Order, in which law—and not power—would govern international relations. This bright future was not to be. First, there was a collapse of the international stock and foreign exchange markets. Then the major international corporations were dissolved—in a futile attempt to stem the financial hemorrhage. By 2012, the global economy had collapsed. Poverty and hunger caused social and political tensions to flare up. The longer the crisis lasted, the fewer people were brave or naive enough to predict anything positive for the future. It was clear to most that the planet was on the brink of a global conflict. In 2048, the expected global conflict erupted with a violence that shook the planet to its core. All major centralized governments were destroyed in this maelstrom. Europe and East Asia bore the brunt of the devastation, as entire city centers—from Madrid to Moscow and from Seoul to Singapore—were literally wiped off the map. Humanity has always been known for its resilience. Within a dozen years, the inhabitants of Earth had begun to reestablish their old national identities—with a few twists. Twelve states of the former United States joined together to form a new country, the “United Civilized States” (UCS). The citizens of the UCS had essentially abandoned their old roles as producers and leaders. Virtually all work was performed by robots controlled by highly advanced computer systems. Not surprisingly, the human inhabitants of the UCS had become lazy and decadent. The 20th-century dream of a better world had ended in death and destruction. EARTH 2150: THE MOON PROJECT The year 2150… one of the darkest chapters in human history. While the Lunar Corporation, the Eurasian Dynasty, and the United Civilized States prepare for the final, decisive battle, work on a secret project is proceeding feverishly on the Moon. Only the code name of this project is known ………… “SUNLIGHT” EARTH 2150: LOST SOULS It is December 7, 2150—in a few hours, our beloved planet Earth will cease to exist. Devastating wars between the Eurasian Dynasty and the United Civilized States have wreaked havoc and inflicted fatal wounds on our planet, but that’s not all: A series of nuclear explosions near Antarctica has altered Earth’s orbit around the Sun; glaciers have melted, sea levels have risen to a threatening level, and meteor showers have buried entire parts of the world. Renowned scientists from the Lunar Corporation, a long-forgotten colony on the Moon, were the first to recognize the signs of the impending catastrophe. According to their calculations, the distance between the Sun and Earth would decrease by 17% over the next few years, which would have terrible consequences. The only hope left for the population was to flee to the red planet, Mars. Hurry, because time is running out...
