Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow over Mystara

Dungeons & Dragons: Shadow over Mystara

In addition to the four heroes from the previous game, Dungeons & Dragons: Tower of Doom (cleric, dwarf, elf and fighter), Shadow of Mystara also includes a thief and a magic user to choose from. Also, up to two players can select the same character (in Tower of Doom, each character could only be selected once), so the game has 12 "different" characters to choose from. The two clerics and the two magic users also have subtle differences in their spellbooks. The controls are four buttons: attack, jump, select (this causes a small inventory ring to appear around the character, allowing the player to select the item that is in the use slot), and use. The cleric, elf, and magic user also have two additional rings for their spells, using the jump key to move from ring to ring. The game uses the same kick harness as the previous game, but the select and use keys are swapped. Shadow over Mystara also introduces a selection of special moves that are performed by moving the joystick and tapping the buttons in certain combinations, similar to the Street Fighter series. The characters (with the exception of the Magic user) have a Dashing attack and a Rising attack, with which they can combine monsters or even juggle them in the air. Most characters (again, with the exception of the Magic-User and the Cleric) also have a Megacrush, a move found in almost all Capcom side-scrollers that deals damage to all enemies near the character, as well as to the player himself.
