Story
375 years ago, the twin brothers Oswulf and Eldamar built a castle in a large valley in the Dragon's Tooth Mountains and founded the city of Verdigris below the castle. The city flourished under the leadership of the brothers. Oswulf was a paladin and Eldamar was a mage. As Eldamar grew older, his obsession with immortality grew and he began to learn how to become a lich. Oswulf tried to stop his brother, but failed. Eldamar became a lich known as the Dreadlord. The horrified Oswulf could not bear to kill his own brother. He asked a group of adventurers, the Silver Blades, for help to stop the Dreadlord. The Dreadlord was sure that these adventurers were destined to kill him, and he began to gather armies of evil creatures to help him. The town was overrun by monsters and the inhabitants abandoned it. With the help of the Silver Blades, they managed to drive the monsters out of the town and back to the castle. Oswulf, however, was still determined not to kill his own brother. The Silver Blades set about researching a spell that enveloped the entire valley in a glacier. Everything in it was frozen, but still alive. Oswulf sacrificed himself so that his spirit could guard the castle. Some of the Dread Lord's followers survived the effects of the glacier and tried to get through the ice, but failed. Fifteen years ago, they formed a group known as the Black Circle and succeeded in breaking the spell. The glacier began to melt. As the ice melted, many miners realized that the old mines of Verdigris were accessible again and founded the town of New Verdigris. The mines contained large quantities of gemstones. As the miners descended to the lower levels, monsters that had been frozen for over 300 years emerged and took over the mines once again. In desperation, the miners took all the gems to the Well of Knowledge, which is said to grant wishes and hold information for those who cast treasures into it. The Well of Knowledge summoned the party to the town of New Verdigris at the request of the townspeople. They need the group to protect them from the monsters and so begins the story of the secret of the Silver Blades.
