Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless

Disgaea 7: Vows of the Virtueless

The next chapter in the Disgaea saga. In Disgaea 7, the story takes place in a world called Hinomoto Netherworld Cluster, which is inspired by Japanese culture.

Story

The game is set in a series of small underworlds collectively known as Hinomoto. This world mimics the style of old Japan during the transition between the Edo period (1603-1868) and the Meiji Restoration (1868-1912). The plot and style are heavily inspired by the clash of cultures between these two periods of Japanese history, parodying and reflecting the changing attitudes and behaviors of the time. The plot begins with the end of the Age of Warriors following the military takeover of the shogunate by a demon named Demmodore Opener after he defeats the strongest warrior of the time, Mugai Zesshosai, and his followers. The story follows the intertwined tales of Fuji, a former apprentice of Mugai and now wandering warrior, whose story reflects the view of a samurai of the time with the collapse of their culture and their importance in it; and Pirilika, an otaku for Hinomoto culture who arrives just in time to witness the culture she idolizes from the movies she's seen being replaced by the more metropolitan styling of the Meiji era, parodying the westernization of Japan during that time and the general Japanese otaku in the West in modern times.
