David Crane's The Rescue of Princess Blobette
Starring: A Boy and His Blob “The Rescue of Princess Blobette” tells the story of a young male protagonist and his Blob companion as they attempt to rescue his girlfriend, the eponymous Princess Blobette. The damsel in distress has been held captive by the evil alchemist in the highest tower of the royal palace on the planet Blobolinia. Like its predecessor “A Boy and His Blob: Trouble on Blobolonia,” “The Rescue of Princess Blobette” is a puzzle-platformer in which the player directly controls the boy, while the Blob—controlled by the computer’s AI—follows him. The duo must navigate the castle’s various corridors and floors to find and rescue Blobette. The boy can only run back and forth; he cannot jump or swim, and he dies if he falls from a great height or comes into contact with dangerous objects such as flamethrowers and drain snakes. However, the Blob can be transformed into useful tools by feeding it gummy candies in various flavors. Each flavor causes a different transformation. For example, if the Blob is given a tangerine jelly bean, it turns into a trampoline, which the boy can then use to reach high platforms. The player can also find additional bags of jelly beans and numerous optional treasures. If the player finds five peppermints, the number of extra lives increases by one.
