Darkspore

Darkspore

Darkspore was a video game that adopted the creature manipulation technology of Spore. It was described as "a fast-paced science fiction action role-playing game in which the player fought on alien worlds to save the galaxy from the mutant forces of Darkspore". In addition to the creature editor, the game featured unique squad-based mechanics, various multiplayer options, and a player-versus-player arena. The game was released in North America on April 26, 2011 for Microsoft Windows and in Europe on April 28, 2011. EA apparently removed Darkspore's store page from Steam, meaning that no attempt can be made to purchase it through Steam. Later, the game was listed again and EA said that they would continue to support the game. Those who bought the game before the site was removed still have it and were able to play it until the servers were finally shut down on March 1, 2016. The game is currently unplayable because the DRM system requires a connection.

Story

The Crogenitors were a race of scientists who built a vast empire that spanned an entire galaxy. Many of them conducted secret experiments on the peoples they oversaw. As masters of genetic manipulation, they used their knowledge to create a personal army of genetic heroes they called Living Weapons. However, the discovery of an experimental amino acid that binds to DNA changes everything. It is capable of achieving an entire millennium of evolution in a matter of hours and has the potential to manipulate life on an unprecedented scale. Unfortunately, E-DNA proves to be unstable. All test subjects who came into contact with it turned into uncontrollable genetic mutants, soon dubbed The Darkspore. Fearing these new creatures, the Crogenitors exile the hero Xylan for his behavior and carelessness and ban the use of E-DNA. Xylan fakes his death. He believes that he can control the power of E-DNA and injects it into himself. This act transforms him into the Corrupter - a mentally unstable, extraordinarily powerful mutant who can control all Darkspores. Determined to take revenge on the other Crogenitors and conquer everything, he gathers allies and strengthens the mutagenic power of E-DNA. After that, the Corruptor starts conquering planets of the Crogenitor Empire, infecting them by using E-DNA bombs and destroying the Crogenitors' fortresses with his mutants and war machines. At the beginning of the game, the player takes on the role of one of the last Crogenitors. With only a few heroes, the player must drive the Darkspore out of the galaxy from planet to planet, getting closer and closer to the ultimate goal of destroying the Corruptor forces.
