Crackdown

Crackdown

Crackdown is an open-world third-person shooter video game for the Xbox 360. Set in the fictional city of Pacific City, the player controls a biologically enhanced agent tasked with fighting three crime bosses and their organized crime syndicates. The agent's abilities improve by defeating the criminals and their supporters, as well as completing optional activities such as street races and scavenger hunts. The gameplay is non-linear: instead of following a rigid mission order, players are free to choose how to complete their missions and activities. The game features a two-player cooperative game mode via Xbox Live. Crackdown, which was originally planned for the original Xbox console, was intended to be a vast world in which players could freely experiment and explore. Microsoft Game Studios bundled specially marked copies of Crackdown with an access code for the multiplayer trial of the highly anticipated Halo 3 beta. The game sold 1.5 million copies in the first six months of its release because everyone wanted to play Halo 3. It received positive reviews and won several awards for its innovative gameplay. Crackdown was available for free download from August 1, 2013 to August 16, 2013 as part of the Xbox 360 "Games With Gold" (Xbox Live) program (Xbox Live Gold members only).

Story

Crackdown is set in the fictional metropolis Pacific City, whose various districts and areas are spread over four islands. The city is controlled by three criminal organizations: Los Muertos (which means "the dead" in Spanish), which originates from Central America; an Eastern European gang, the Volk (Russian for wolf); and the once-integrity Shai-Gen Corporation, which originates from East Asia. Normally, a police-like organization called the Peacekeepers keeps the city under control; however, their forces were overwhelmed by the sudden increase in crime. The city therefore asked for help from the "Agency," an organization that not only equips and supports the Peacekeepers, but also uses advanced surgical and cybernetic technologies to create super soldiers known as "agents." The agency is based in a former hotel in the center of the city. The player takes on the role of one of its agents and is tasked with systematically dismantling all three organized gangs while protecting the population and the peacekeepers. The agent's actions are constantly monitored by the agency, and its director (voiced by Michael McConnohie) constantly reports on his progress. During the game, the player roams Pacific City and systematically takes out the leaders and subordinates of the three gangs. After defeating the gangs' kingpins and generals, the agent must put down a final uprising of the remaining gang members in the area, which will make the city almost crime-free at the end of the game.
